39/52

On Thursday, we got some much needed rain here in CA, well it wasn't much and we could use more.  It started out as a light sprinkle and got a bit heavier, the kids enjoyed every stage of the rain. First we pulled out the umbrellas, then the rain boots and finally their jackets. At the end the girls ditched the umbrellas and were just playing in the rain and just soaking it up.

Allyson took the rain business seriously, at least the heavier rain. She loved hearing it on her umbrella.

Austin enjoyed the sprinkles but when it started to come down, he was happy to hang out by mama and play with his lego phone.

September 19th was Talk like a Pirate day. We had lots of fun dressing up as pirates and talking like pirates, argh!  Krispy Kreme gave away a dozen donuts if you were dressed like a pirate or one donut for talking like a pirate. We had donuts for breakfast and lunch that day and they were so so yummy!

Austin: This week we went to the zoo right in our own backyard. Austin was serious about holding on to his ticket.

Allyson was the zoo keepers helper. She told us what she thought about each animal and made up some facts. She would look over and Aubrey and make sure she was saying the right thing and if not she would repeat whatever Aubrey told her.

Aubrey, the zoo keeper. This week she decided on what animals she wanted to have at our zoo. She researched them and then wrote them down and then was our guide around our zoo. Here she is with the baby turtles.

You can see all of our pictures here

Week 35 /36

Homeschooling is getting the best of me, it's been great it has. There's been a lot of adjusting for all of us. I am really enjoying all these moments we have together. There's a lot of craziness, kids running through the house screaming, there is fighting, whining, but we are all together and we are loving these moments. Ok, well, most of them.

I end up spending time at night doing the next days prep. So I don't feel like I have had a chance to sit and just do what I want to do. I need to just prep the week or month but that seems like so much work and I'm exhausted.

I have managed to take pictures, so here they are.

Week 35

Austin was so upset that Allyson had left with Auntie Candice. He was crying for his sister not because he wanted to go.

Allyson still loves the sandbox. She comes in with sand EVERY where.

Those dimples of hers just kill me, I love them!!

Week 36

The kids with their favorite things.

Austin still loves anything Spider Man.

Aubrey got this stuffed horse from Build-A-Bear for her 5th or 6th birthday, it's her absolute favorite. She sleeps with it every night, when she's sad she will snuggle with it, and that's the one thing she really doesn't like to share.

This goofy little girl loves her Goofy. She has 2, Big Goofy and Little Goofy. She loves both equally it just depends on her mood at the moment.

Many uses for Thieves

I'm so sorry this is late friends, life feels like it's so busy right now. Slowly getting into our homeschooling groove, no excuses though, let's go!

Let's jump right into talking about an oil blend called Thieves. It's a blend of clove, lemon, cinnamon Eucalyptus radiata and rosemary. I think it smells good, almost like Christmas.
ThievesOIL

I've used it for a few different things and I stocking up on this for the germy season that's coming up.

1. Canker Sores/ Cold sores - Ugh, I know that I am stressed when a canker sore pops up. I remembered that Thieves helps clear up canker sore. I put a drop of Thieves mixed with a bit of coconut oil on the there 3-4 times a day and seriously overnight it was 100 times better and then gone the next day. It even numbed the pain.

2. Sore throat - I seem to get sore throats frequently and I've just always dealt with them. I can't stand the taste of those sprays, I totally gag. Again, I remembered that Thieves worked for sore throats. I rubbed some right on to my throat and almost instantly my throat was feeling better. I did this 2-3x a day and in no time it was gone! You can also mix with water and gargle for relief.

3. You can add it to your laundry or  homemade cleaning products. Mix several drops of Thieves with baking soda to clean your bathtub. I add some drops to my mop water.

4. I like diffusing this to keep any airborne germs count down plus I think it smells like Christmas, and I like that!

With the fall/winter germs that are going to be creeping into our house, I'm going to start rubbing some directly onto the bottom of our feet to protect us from cold/flu.

If you feel a sickness coming on you can take some in a capsule or a drop in water.

You can add 2-3 drops  to hot water, lean over the bowl with a towel on your head and breathe in the vapors.

This stuff is something you will want to have on hand all year round but especially with the cold and flu season that's coming up.

Amazing uses for Lavender

I'm so glad that you came back and are joining me for another week talking about essential oils. This week lavender is up!

LavenderEo

Oh Lavender, how I love thee! You are one of the most versatile oils.  You are often called the swiss army knife of essential oils. There are a lot of uses for them. Here are some of the ways we've used them and some ways I'm looking forward to using Lavender.

1. Stops a runny nose. I rub a drop underneath the kids nose and it actually stops.

2. Freshen your laundry. I add a few drops to my homemade laundry soap.

3. Soothe a sunburn. Mix a few drop with some coconut oil and apply to burnt area. It will speed healing and prevent scars. Also great for burns.

4. Relaxing foot soak. Take a bowl of warm water, 1C epsom salt, 10-15 drops of lavender and soak for 10-15 minutes. It will relax you and help you sleep better.

5. Apply a few drops to a bug bite, it will reduce swelling and pain.

6.  Cuts and scrapes. Clean the area and then few drops over the area and it will heal up quickly!

7. Can help clear up eczema. Lavender mixed with a carrier oil on the area. It helped clear up a patch on the back of Allyson's leg.

8. Relief from ear aches. Use a warm compress, add a few drops of lavender to the warm wet compress and massage the areas around and behind the ears, sides of the neck under the jaw. This can help relieve and reduce inflammation around the tubes that drains the ears to the throat.

9.  Soothe a sore throat. Inhale or rub a few drops around the nasal passage and massage into the neck and throat area.

10. Dry, chapped lips? Mix 1/2 -1 teaspoon coconut oil with a drop of lavender and kiss those chapped lips good bye!

11. Suffer from allergies?  You can take it in a capsule or diffuse lavender, peppermint and lemon for relief from allergies. It also smells sooo good too!!!

This is just the start. There are lots of other ways to use lavender, I'm looking forward to adding it into a lavender lemon cake or lavender scones. Yummy!

Totally one you need to have in your medicine cabinet right?
