Flats Challenge: Challenge Accepted!

Today is the first day of the Flats and Handwashing Challenge hosted by Dirty Diaper Laundry. The rules for the challenge are to use flat diapers (like your grandma would have used) something to fasten the diaper with (snappi, boingos or pins) and a water proof cover. You must hand wash your diapers and air dry diapers.

Why on earth would I take this challenge? Conrad looked at me like I grew a third eye when I said I wanted to do this. Heck, I couldn't really believe I wanted to.

*I thought it would be fun and I like a good challenge.

*I want to help show that cloth diapering is practical and you can even do it on a budget. Flats and covers is how I started to cloth diaper Allyson! You don't need to spend a ton of money on diapers. Cloth or disposable.

*I really love cloth diapering and this a fun way to connect with other momma that love cloth too.

Day one is done. I did two washes in a 5 gallon bucket and it was a lot easier than I expected it to be. I think tomorrow I'm going to either try to wash as I go or add another washing session in there. The one before bed was a bigger load and took a little longer.

Or maybe I was just exhausted from the day that started at 4:30 this morning ... way too early for this mommy!

Tomorrow I'll be showing you my supplies for the challenge. Hopefully I'll snap some pictures of the kids rockin' their flats too.

  1. Hi Heidi, I'm thinking about cloth diapering and was wondering what you liked and disliked about it. Cruzer is almost 7 months old and his poop is getting kind of icky with solids other than that he is breastfed. I haven't potty trained Jett yet (27 months old) and weaned him a few weeks before he turned two. I am nervous about potty training for some reason, we will be starting soon. Two in diapers is a bit much :)
